BUSINESS SUCCESS STORIES

Mouttaki Consulting LLC

Amanda Mouttaki

In 2012, Amanda Mouttaki worked from home for an online public relations company. She had received her bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and an MBA from Strayer University. Mouttaki was ready to make the move from freelance consulting and working for another company to owning her own business. With the help of Western Dairyland, Mouttaki started Mouttaki Consulting LLC, where she teaches businesses how they can use social media and online marketing to promote their business, as well as how to transition from traditional media to new media.

"I wanted to start my own business because I wanted a location-independent lifestyle where I could set my own schedule and be flexible," she said. When she approached the Western Dairyland Women's Business Center, they assisted her with the technical aspects of owning a business. "The biggest challenge for me was knowing how to set up all the paperwork correctly so that I was operating legally," she said. Although she already had a background in business management, Western Dairyland specialists provided her with a more nuanced understanding of how to operate. This was especially helpful when Mouttaki and her husband expanded overseas. "Prior to owning my own business in the U.S., I don't think I would have had the courage or knowledge to make this leap," she said.

Although Mouttaki and her family now live and operate their own business in Morocco, she says that the foundation that she gained from running her own business in the United States has helped her to grow and develop her new business. Her experience with Western Dairyland helped her to navigate the technical, bureaucratic aspects of starting a business overseas.

In the future, she hopes to continue to consult for businesses. "My website and company have gained traction," she said, "and I'm happy to now move to the next stage-from entrepreneur to CEO!"
