BUSINESS SUCCESS STORIES

Holtz Creative Enterprises

Holtz Creative EnterprisesMonica Holtz is not a typical business owner. Her business, Holtz Creative Enterprises, helps authors publish their written works at an affordable price. Holtz offers step-by-step assistance with everything from editing to design and printing. Holtz publishes a wide variety of books, including children's books, fiction and family cookbooks.

Before opening her own business, Holtz worked as a writer and editor for over 30 years. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire's journalism department, she also worked as a journalist at several daily and weekly newspapers in Wisconsin.

During the initial phase of starting her own business, Holtz realized that in order to efficiently reach potential clients, she would need her own website. She contacted Western Dairyland for help and was referred to Karman Briggs. Briggs offered a webinar that explained the basics of website building. This informational course gave Holtz the insight she needed. After obtaining a domain name she met with Briggs for additional assistance in completing the website, holtzcreativeenterprises.com. Through the assistance, both online and in person, Holtz gained the knowledge and experience needed to maintain the site on her own.

Holtz's business continues to grow and her website has served her well in obtaining new clients. She also enjoys attending Western Dairyland's Women's Business Networking meetings as well as the annual Women's Business Conference. She said that these events have given her valuable networking opportunities and additional business knowledge.

In addition to owning her own business, Holtz is also the author of three children's books. Her latest book, "The Christmas Village," was released in November 2012. Her other books are "Emily at the Zoo" and "Behind the Zoo," which focus on Irvine Park Zoo in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. A portion of all proceeds from her books is donated to Irvine Park. According to Holtz, "This is my way of giving back to the community. My children and grandchildren have visited Irvine Park and Zoo many times over the years and we appreciate this wonderful resource."

Overall, Holtz is doing very well for herself. Running a one-person business can be extremely difficult but with the help of her website and her relations with independent contractors, her business has grown tremendously. She assists dozens of authors each year and sells hundreds of books on retail and wholesale levels.
