BUSINESS SUCCESS STORIES

MüD Modular Marketing Systems

Müd Modular Marketing Systems

Located in Eau Claire, MüD Modular Marketing Systems creates eye-catching marketing displays. Owner and Lead Designer, Amy Lokken, said, "We help businesses to achieve what they want to achieve, which is standing out from their competition." MüD displays are designed for use in tradeshows and expos, but built with enough flexibility that they can be used in lobbies, as point of purchase displays or to distribute samples. MüD displays truly are limited only by one's ingenuity.

Lokken says she likes using the displays for more than one purpose. Not only is it less wasteful, but it also gives the customer the "biggest bang for their buck." In addition to being usable in a variety of settings, MüD Modular Marketing Systems can be easily disassembled and used as a partial display, such as a tabletop display.

Another benefit of using MüD Modular Marketing Systems is its friendliness to the environment and the local economy. According to Lokken, 80% of the materials used to construct the displays, including the plastics, are recyclable. And around 75-85% of the materials, depending on the specifics of each project, are made locally. Most of the remaining materials are still from the midwest, and only a couple of parts are ordered from outside the region.

Lokken started MüD on her own and without a clear business plan. But MüD was quite successful, and Lokken realized that the business could expand beyond her original hopes. "As I saw the potential for MüD growing, I needed a more traditional business plan," she said. But Lokken had never created a traditional business plan, and wasn't sure where to start. Through the Western Dairyland Business Center, Lokken took courses that taught her to build a business plan and successfully expand her business. The Business Center also helped Lokken promote MüD Modular Marketing Systems.

Recently, Lokken designed a display for Woodbury Dental Care (WDC). She describes this project as one of the most interesting, because WDC needed to be able to showcase that they are the premier dentist for the Minnesota Wild, Saints and Swarm. Lokken positioned and sized the sports logos in such a way that they are prominent without overshadowing WDC. Lokken also constructed a miniature display for WDC to use at charity events.

Currently, MüD Modular Marketing Systems is still growing and reaching to achieve the plateau of being known and recognized. "The more we get out there, the more we achieve that 'ah-ha!' moment," Lokken said. She plans to drive MüD to keep growing and dreams of marketing on a national and international scale someday.
