Local Winner Announced: Aunt K's Natural Powder

Aunt K's Natural Powder

The Western Dairyland Women's Business Center awards Aunt K's Natural Powder as winner of the regional InnovateHER: 2017 Innovating for Women Business Challenge.

The Western Dairyland Women's Business Center hosted the regional competition to select a semi-finalist for the national InnovateHER: 2017 Innovating for Women Business Challenge. Entrepreneurs from throughout Wisconsin were invited to compete. Launched by the Small Business Administration Office of Women's Business Ownership, the InnovateHER: Innovating for Women Challenge is a prize competition to showcase the most innovative products and services that impact and empower women's lives. Through this Challenge, SBA is looking for entrepreneurs to create a product or service that:

·         has a measurable impact on the lives of women and families

·         has the potential for commercialization

·         fills a need in the marketplace

One winner in each region will be forwarded to the SBA to compete for up to $70,000 in cash prizes. The hope is this competition will spur greater conversation, collaboration and cooperation at all levels to support women, families and entrepreneurs. Beth Waldhart of Charter Bank, Amy Muehlbauer of the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce and Jeannie Voeks of Green Planet Rain Barrels serves as judges for the Western Dairyland Women's Business Center competition to assess the business plans submitted by applicants and select the business believed to best match the criteria identified by the SBA.

Aunt K's was officially incorporated on February 14th, 2005 by Kay Widule and her mother Sharon Horstman. When Kay was a young mother, her daughter developed a painful and persistent diaper rash that over the counter and prescription remedies couldn't sooth. Kay enlisted Sharon to help her try and develop a home remedy to soothe her daughter's diaper rash. The mother/daughter team worked together to create an all-natural baby powder in their kitchen out of everyday ingredients. The product they developed healed the rash that the prescription and over the counter medications couldn't. What started out as a simple home remedy has turned into a profitable business venture.
