Hazel Beck, Director of the Veterans Business Outreach Center in Chicago, will keynote the 5th Annual Women's Business Celebration Luncheon on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from noon to 1 pm at The Florian Gardens, 2340 Lorch Avenue, in Eau Claire. Hazel will present on jump starting your business! Learn practical steps for improving and growing your existing business and taking it to the next level and beyond! Check-in begins at 11:30am. The 2017 winners of New Business of the Year and Business Woman of the Year will also be revealed in a special awards ceremony. Table sponsors are $300; individual tickets are $29. Meet Women's Business Center staff and Advisory Board members over lunch, while connecting with established and aspiring women entrepreneurs and business owners throughout the region. Women's business successes from the past year will be reviewed, the current state of affairs for women in business will be shared, and exciting opportunities for the year ahead will be highlighted.
October is National Women's Small Business Month, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).The purpose of the month is to celebrate and recognize the contributions of women-owned businesses and to help more women-owned businesses start up due to the many challenges they face when it comes to business ownership. The SBA and Western Dairyland's Women's Business Center have the resources and the assistance to help women-owned small businesses overcome hurdles and launch their businesses.

Hazel is the Director of the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC@WBDC) in Chicago. She is responsible for the overall management of the VBOC, ensuring that business development services are provided to active duty service members, Guard, Reserve, veterans and military families. Programs include the SBA's Boots to Business and Reboot. The VBOC@WBDC's service area encompasses Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Hazel served as the Center Director for the Hawai'i Small Business Development Center (SBDC) located in Kailua Kona on Hawaii Island. Funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration and a program of the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, the SBDC provided a range of business consulting services to aspiring entrepreneurs, start-up companies and existing businesses. Prior to coming to Hawaii, Hazel owned and managed three consulting companies from 1990 through 2006. With over 16 years of consulting experience, she worked with global manufacturing clients and key suppliers in North America, the UK and Western Europe to improve manufacturing processes and reduce costs. Major clients included Ford Motor Company, Rolls-Royce Aerospace and Lucent Technologies. Hazel holds a B.A. in Business Management, cum laude, from Hiram College and is a Vietnam-era veteran of the United States NAVY.
