Jerry Brainerd and Scott Niemec combined
their skills and business experience in 2006 to develop the wood
flooring supply business called Distribution Brothers. Niemec had 10
year distribution experience, and Brainerd had spent 10 years in wood
flooring.
Western Dairyland played a pivotal rule in
their business startup and the expansion of their business. Western
Dairyland assisted with:
- Developing a business plan
- Creating a business strategy
- Aiding in the name selection
“But it was more than just the business plan
–it was the business strategy, the business name, everything,” Brainerd
said. “The SBDC and Western Dairyland asked all the right questions and
pointed us in the right direction.”
“We never would have been able to create,
design and document our overall business plan without the one-on-one
help of Western Dairyland,” Niemiec added.
The Distribution Brothers main focus is
making the wood flooring business successful and their customers are
their reason for being. Their main focus in serving wood flooring
professionals. Through their great work, they quickly expanded their
business to a second location after only the first year. They now have
have locations in Des Moines, IA; Cedar Rapids, IA; and Eau Claire, WI.
